Have a Happy Healthy Independence Day!

All of us have been pretty much shaken up by how the H1N1 virus has invaded our lives at a drastic pace and turned deadly.Swine flu has been spreading globally like wild fire.Sadly,my country, has been affected so much that cities like Pune and Mumbai, have gone on a virtual shut-down mode to prevent further spread of the influenza. .

However, let us not allow this pandemic to take our lives over to an extent that we forget to laugh, stay positive or be happy. So,let me share a work of a cartoonist-friend,who,like many of us,has been as disturbed, with the deadly virus having reached his country of domain,Oman!!

On that note wish you all a very Happy Independence Day in advance!Do stay healthy and take whatever precautions needed to keep the dangerous disease at bay. Please watch out for the slightest symptom and make sure to report yourself to the nearest health care center. Please do NOT take even a minute sneeze lightly,if you are or have been,in a swine-flu-affected-area.

Ok,I think thats enough of my preaching for the day. Have a wonderful holiday, people.Lets hope and pray, next year, same time, the deadly virus will be far behind us!

EDITED TO ADD(14Aug):I remembered this song in the morning and thought how well it depicted the essential feature of our nation-‘UNITY IN DIVERSITY’.And what better occasion to hear the song than the Independence Day.So heres to 62 glorious years of freedom.Once again wish you all a Happy Independence Day,people!

  1. Wish you a happy independence day too.

And keep safe for H1N1. It is spreading in the Middle East as well. These guys never publish real numbers just so as to not create panic and ofcourse for economic reasons.

D: Yes,its catching up here pretty fast. Its bad, actually, dont you think, that they dont publish the correct figures?the right facts can so help us in being more cautious

  3. Happy Independence Day to you too! Do you guys have any celebration there?

D: There are some being organized by the Indian association here. And some of the regional clubs too have events lined up.Hows it there?Do you have any Indian association there?

Hope your parents in Delhi are doing fine.

D: Yes they are, thank you.How about yours?Has Kerala been affected?

    1. We hardly have any Indians here, Deeps. πŸ™‚

In our neighborhood we are the only Indians. Our neighbors (All Americans) organized a party for just us because we always take part in July 4th celebration. So after attending that dinner, planning to catch ‘The time traveler’s wife’.
In fact they called us in Redding (when we were vacationing) and requested us to come for July 4th fire works. Our neighbors are the best.

D: Your neighours are so sweet,Sols! Its so important to have good relations with your neighours, even more so when you’re away from your homeland. They virtually become your family, ones you can bank on at times of need πŸ™‚
      Kerala so far seems okay.

  4. Happy Independence day, Deeps! So what plans for the day? We plan to have a potluck picnic – if the weather is good.. fingers crossed.
D: Nothing planned as yet,Smits. We might go for a movie, now since that lull has been broken πŸ˜‰ πŸ˜€ .You have fun at the picnic!

Swine flu is certainly everywhere now.. Quite scary, na? I think in India, it is more scary because of the population.. I do hope they come out with that vaccine soon.

D: yes its getting graver by the day.As per reports, the first batch of vaccine is expected to be available by October.Lets hope that is the case and doesnt get delayed further

And that cartoon is great πŸ™‚

Here not much of swin ful till now,but once people start coming from vacation the flu will come here for sure and i am scared to send my kid to school from 30th august.More over these people don’t tell the exact figures and i am not sure whether they can handle many cases.

D: Here too,in Qatar H1N1 cases have been reported diagnosed but not very critical.at least nothing critical has been reported so far

Oman schools are closed for a week now as many came back from vacation and cases are rising, hubby just came back from muscat.

D:Yes I heard so too.Its getting serious.Hope the vaccines are made available to everyone soon

I heard on NDTV today that vaccine will come soon probably by august end or sep mid.

D: sooner the better.’cos from what I heard last, the first set was expected sometime in October.

D: Great idea πŸ˜€ .BTW,wish your professor too a happy independence day and tell him to give you a break now, else some of us bloggers, led by Saksh will be at his doorstep, wearing the “Olive Green Mad Bomber Nylon Hat with Rabbit Fur” to do some serious damage to his theories πŸ˜€ .

    Here’s to India! πŸ™‚

H1N1 is scary ..atleast it looks to be a very scary scenario on TV 😦
D:you know, sitting here, watching all those reporters reporting about the casualties,I get so paranoid! Its been over-hyped.Sometimes I feel the news channels go over-board.I hope the vaccinations are made available soon.

Amen to your thought that our country comes out of it fine..and the world too.

and its not preaching..it was nice to see the concern in the words πŸ™‚

    D: Welcome here πŸ™‚

    Greeting for independence from me.

Well spreading awareness for swine flu is important, but way media has hyped it. it looks like a panic!

  11. U mentioned “Please do NOT take even a minute sneeze lightly,if you are or have been,in a swine-flu-affected-area”

I stay in Poona & I sneezed today morning πŸ˜‰

    D: You sneezed???oh my god,someone call the clinic,get a stretcher, he needs help!!LOL
I understand the situation has been over hyped mainly y the media. When I see reports of a 9month old infant dying or a 14year old child succumbing to the disease, sitting here,so far away from home,I get worried.Hence the ‘panic’.Yes,since you’re there, you have a better idea of the situation. All I meant was that we needed to e careful. Thanks anyway for that reality check,Aseem πŸ™‚

All I want to say is that theres no need to panic.. yes it is a deadly virus but what we should be doing is staying @ home if we have any sort of viral infection.. take care & enjoy yr holiday.. Happy Independence day to you!

    D: You too πŸ™‚
